If there’s one thing I should have detoxed a long time ago it was my washing powder. I didn’t really think of it to be honest, and how did I miss the link! Our skin is our largest organ! If we are washing our clothing in toxic chemicals it will then be sitting against our skin each and every day right on the clothes we are wearing, the sheets we are sleeping on and the towels we are drying ourselves with.
It has become very important to me to be using clean and toxin-free washing powders and liquids since i looked into the ingredients well known washing powders on our shelves have in them.
That synthetic perfume smell of “washed clothes” is nothing more than artificial fragrance made up of a potion of chemicals. Ones I will no longer be allowing into my home.
Young Living do have a liquid washing soap that I have used however call me old school I still prefer to use powder so I make my own.
- 2 cups Bicarb Soda
- 2 cups Lectric Washing Soda
- 1/2 cup Epsom Salts
- 1 bars Thieves Soap – grated (or processed in your Thermomix)
- 30 drops Young Living Lavender essential oil (or any oil of choice depending on what scent you would like)
Process or grate soap. Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl and store in an air tight container or jar.
I use 2 TBS per wash. For very dirty clothes I will add a capful of Thieves Cleaner (concentrate) to the wash as well. I also put 1-2 TBS white vinegar in the rinse cycle section of my front loader machine.
Your clothes will not come out with a strong scent – they will smell neutral – which is how clean clothes should smell!
Know that the skin irritations, respiratory issues and headaches (just to name a few) may be linked to things like the laundry powder you are using – so check it out, check the ingredients and why not make your own – it’s so easy!
Hope you love this recipe as much as I do.
